Grief, Loss, & Life Transitions
Receive support as you adjust to loss and process your grief
Loss is an inevitable part of our ever-changing human lives. When we lose someone or something we care about (a person, a pet, a job, a place, a community, a dream), grief naturally follows.
Grief is our natural way of processing our loss, and reconciling with a new reality in which our beloved person or experience is absent. Many intense emotions may arise, such as devastating sadness, anger, fear, or despair. Or instead, we may feel engulfed by numbness, denial, and disbelief. Physical changes can occur, such as fatigue, agitation, or confusion. Behavioural changes can occur, such as withdrawal from usual activities, changes in sleep or eating habits, or excessively pursuing distractions.
The intense feelings of grief often come and go in waves. Learning to recognize and make space for them can help us slowly adjust to our losses. And actively mourning our losses can facilitate healing. Talking about your grief and loss with a counsellor can support you through this process.
